Editing

Yesterday, with a mixture of excitement and trepidation I received the m/s of The Good Father so that I might give it the final once over before publication in October.  I shall try to read it with a cool, critical eye and not miss any typos - but I know mistakes will still creep through as they always do in any novel ( not just mine), making me wince when I read the final bound copy. All the same, editing is a welcome distraction from the much harder task of actually making up a new story (i.e. writing the next novel) something that I'm struggling with at the moment; I have never written so slowly or felt so much as if I'm trying to haul words from a very deep, dark pit.

Anyway...In the post this morning some lovely postcards created to promote Good Father, giving details of its launch and a signing, which cheered me.  Weather cold and grey, although rather lovely and sunny this morning in Preston Park.  Leaves have already begun to fall, there are even a few premature conkers littering the paths, reminding me as they always do of my childhood.  Decided to dedicate The Good Father to my Dad.  It will read For my father, Ted Donkin, 1913 - 2003.
