WEBSITE LAUNCH
Today I'm learning how to edit my webpage and going through my desk diary transferring to this page on my website all the events I've had booked for so long I'd forgotten all about them. I realise I am busier than I thought, although probably not as busy as I should be. The Good Father wil be published on 24th October and I'll have to start plugging away on the phone, by email, by the web and generally being a pushy bird to get a few more gigs (not sure what else to call them - events, maybe?) I am going to South Wales in late October with my lovely publisher Hazel who had organised some signings and a library event around Swansea and Cardiff and hopefully that will give The Good Father a big push in the right direction.
In this good cause of promotion I have been neglecting to write over the last few weeks, although I have a couple of ideas for novels I've been working on, both of which shall probably be ditched in favour of something brilliant I haven't thought of yet. In my defence I did write an article for Mslexia Magazine (an excellent read for writers, by the way) and guess what it was about? Of course - how to promote your novel. This is Write What You Know in action, and the article, Confessions of a Self-Promoter, will be published in the autumn issue out early October (in time for the launch of The Good Father - no coincidence, naturally).
Anyway as this is my diary I should say that the weather is cold and grey , my son is throwing up in the bathroom and my daughter is holed up in her bedroom with her boyfriend, but she's over twenty-one so it's ok. Later I shall plod up to my son's attic bedroom and put my hand on his forehead as mothers do with sick children, even when they are twenty years old, ask if he wants anything then go and fetch it. Later still I will try to do some writing and try harder to resist messing about collecting friends on Myspace and FaceBook. Now, though, I shall ring my kind and patient web designer Mel Ashby for a few more lessons on editing this website.
