Six Litte Deaths again and yet again... - 10 July 2012
So, it is very, very wet and cold and yesterday I was so very cold I decided to go mad and put the heating on, only to find that the boiler had decided that the house was warm enough and so kept turning itself off - because it's JULY! and boiler knows best, so blankets and a hot water bottle and rubbish telly...(Blackout...all mumble mumble, shouty, shouty, mumble - speak up, man! Is it my hearing or my (very old) tv? Why can't actors speak so that middle aged women can hear them? Anyways, it's still raining and I need a good book to read. Luckily, there is a library across the road from our house and since we moved here I have borrowed: Bring up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel (v.v. excellent); State of Emergency by Dominic Sandbrook (v.v. excellent and laugh out loud funny); The Chemistry of Tears by Peter Carey (beautifully written but v.v.dull - and Jack Maggs is one of my favourite novels - Carey has disappointed me ever since Maggs - Parrot and Olivier in America...? Had to give up on it). Also I borrowed The Locked Ward by Dennis O'Donnell - as I am very interested in psychiatric illness...I have also been loitering around the library's cookery books as I need inspiration, but then what if I accidentally smear the pages with egg or butter...? What if a bit of mince gets stuck to the picture of cottage pie? I would be ashamed.
So, not having a book to read, and as rain stopped gardening, I had the bright idea of looking up my sales figures on amazon for my self-published book of short stories, Six Little Deaths. Now, I know, you're right, I shouldn't have done this, but I did work out that amazon very nearly owes me some money; however, it wouldn't let me input my bank details - too few numbers - I don't have this long IBAN number or a Bic code - whatever that is. I have emailed them; I await instruction without much hope.
But Six Little Deaths has sold, and quite a few Americans have bought it, so that's nice. Here's the link to amazon if you would like to buy it. I think it's going for about 79p or something...
Also, attached is a picture of me on a rare sunny day in our garden with Patch, for no reason at all except that Patty is cute and I quite like my hair in this photo - for my hair, it's ok.
